Why You Should Read this Blog

Because it is not Kim Kardashian’s butt.

This is the best reason I could come up with. The blog is not great. I know that. But I can in good faith say that it is better than at least 80% of things you will see on the internet today, almost entirely due to the fact that this blog is not Kim Kardashian’s butt.

If you are looking at this blog, it also means you are not looking at Kim Kardashian’s butt. This means my time has been worthwhile. If you are reading this sentence, I have succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. I can be nourished by my work. And if you are reading this sentence, you are infinitely better off than your contemporary who is currently allocating his or her energy towards trying to understand Kim Kardashian’s butt. Again, your newfound superiority has nothing to do with my competence as a writer or a thinker; it just has everything to do with Kim Kardashian’s butt, and the fact that this blog is not it.

Sometimes what I post will be foolish. Sometimes that foolishness will be intentional, and sometimes it will not. There will be times when you think I am writing on topics well beyond the capacity of my emotional, social, intellectual, or spiritual intelligence. I will more often than not agree with this assessment. Sometimes I will write something that makes you mad, and sometimes what I write will make you sad— most likely in a pity for the writer kind of way. I hope that every once in a while I write something that you are glad you took the time to read. If this never happens, I will be okay, deriving an interior peace from the knowledge that what I am writing will never be Kim Kardashian’s butt.

These are the realities and hopes of this blog. They are based on conjecture, and my innately subjective perceptions of others’ innately subjective perceptions. In writing this blog, this is really all I have. Save one exception. There is one absolute certainty that keeps me both humbled and inspired: this blog is not Kim Kardashian’s butt. This is a good thing. It is the only reason I can offer for why you should read this blog, and it is the only one I need.
