Miles Away

Moon pulls a tide,
But the water ain’t coming.
It’s all 2000 miles away.
Busy getting high
And busy with the flooding,
About 2000 miles away.
Been extra dry
On the coasts of the country.
Trade a storm for a beautiful day.
Sun it shines
On the papers come Monday,
Catastrophe takes the front page.
So why can’t I cry?
Has it stolen my tears?
Has it stolen my tears for the clouds?
Why can’t I worry?
Has it washed all my fears?
Has it washed all my fears in the ground?
Could sadness save ‘em
From rain when its lasting
Some 2000 miles away?
Could worries make ‘em
Keep mayors from asking
Questions 2000 miles away?
Some are heroes,
And some they call looters,
Though they seem to be doing the same.
Floods are mirrors,
When its tide takes the future,
And the past away just the same.
So why can’t I cry?
Has it stolen my tears?
Has it stolen the tears for the clouds?
And why can’t I worry?
Has it buried my fears?
Has it buried my fears in the ground?
How many storms
Sail away with my feelings,
Take ‘em thousands of miles away?
Sound the alarm,
As I sleep through the screaming,
Thousands of miles away.
And your story
Will bleed ‘till it heals
Some thousands of days from today.
While I feel sorry
For my failures to feel
Something 2000 miles away.
